FAQS (Frequently Asked Questions)
Silicone is a unique synthetic polymer. Unlike all other polymers it is based on the element silicon.
Silicone shows greater resistance to extremes of temperature, both high and low, than other polymers. It can be easily pigmented to a wide range of colours and retains its flexibility over a wide range of temperatures.
Silicone Rubber is suitable for high and low temperature. Some Special high temperature silicone rubber compound is formulated to withstand intermittent spikes of 230° C temperature application. Aside from temperature resistance and inherent high flexibility, this silicone rubber has an excellent resistance to water, good electrical insulation properties and inert compounds to resist fungus and mold growth. Exceptional electrical, moisture and chemical resistance, extremely stable and suitable for using with many acids and alkalies. Retains high flexibility. It’s flammability is low and produced less smoke when burned. It is also resistant to Ozone, UV and corona Discharge.
Silicone will resist the most extreme hot, cold, wet, dry and humid conditions that can be found. It is also resistant to the UV and Ozone damage that can cause other rubbers to fail.
Silicone is generally considered to be non toxic which is why it is the material of choice for many food and beverage processing applications and domestic kitchen items such as utensils and bake ware.
Silicone can be produced in forms that are suitable for contact with food and drinking water over a wide range of temperatures. We supply silicones that are FDA approved for contact with food and beverages.
Sponge silicones are produced by introducing a chemical blowing agent to the silicone compound. During the manufacturing process this releases gas, which cause a structure of tiny bubbles to form in the silicone. These bubbles enable the production of very soft and easily deformed items in silicone. The temperature and environmental performance of the sponge silicone is the same as that of the solid silicone.
Our silicones are suitable for use in a constant temperature range of -60° to +220°C. However, some of our specially formulated grades can operate to as high as 300°C for intermittent periods.
Yes, silicone is not adversely affected by prolonged submersion in either fresh or salt water.
Silicone can be easily pigmented into a wide range of colours and SEVITSIL has capabilities to colour match. We have developed glow in the dark silicone and even pigments that will change colour with temperature.
Silicone naturally does not support microbiological growth. By introducing special additives to the compound it is possible to produce silicone products that will actively kill bacteria like e-coli and MRSA like our neutral anti-microbial silicone.
Normal delivery is approximately 2 weeks. Longer lead times are possible depending on the materials. If you need something sooner, we will always work with you.

Yes, as stated above, silicone Rubber is suitable for working at a big range of temperature. You can use it from -60°C to 220°C at intermittent use.
No, Silicone Rubber is not harmful or toxic. You can certainly use it with food and and beverages. Just makes sure you inform us while ordering that you want food grade Silicone Rubber.
Based on your quantity requirement, we can manufacture any given colored silicone Rubber parts with high accuracy.
Is the measurement most generally used for stating the hardness of elastic materials. For example, a rubber band is approximately 30 shore "A" hardness, tire tread stock is approximately 60 shore "A" hardness and a typical hard rubber shore heel is about 80 shore "A" hardness.

A die is used for cutting the shape of the label out of the material. The material is shipped to us in large rolls. The marking laminate is added to the label material before it is die-cut. A die to the material is like a cookie cutter to dough. We have over 2500 dies available. There is no charge to use one of our existing dies.
If you need a special label shape that is unique to your product, we can have a die manufactured for that shape. The tooling charge is the cost for that die.
We are glad to provide samples within 6 working days if you are ordering existing samples by email.
The life of a silicone product depends on the working conditions to which it is subjected (temperature, mechanical effort, chemical resistance, etc.).
Once vulcanised and transformed into an end-product, they have no expiry date. Kept in their original packaging, these products can last more than 10 years in perfect state.

To calculate the cost of an extruded product we need to know:
2. Drawing, sketch or sample of the item to manufacture.
1. Number of meters or quantity needed.
3. Working temperature range.
4. Any foodstuff related specifications if there are.
5. Chemical and mechanical working conditions.
No, silicone even though it may yellow with time, keeps all its mechanical and chemical properties. We can therefore keep on using it until it breaks or stops working they way we expect.
